DescriptionThis is a photograph of a view in Mt. McKinley National Park.Label TextAnsel Adams American, 1902–1984 Mt. McKinley [Denali] and Wonder Lake, Mt. McKinley [Denali] National Park, Alaska, 1947 Gelatin silver print, ca. 1980 Adams’s majestic mountains can seem fixed and eternal, but the artist was often drawn to nature’s transient qualities, as seen in his attention to water. In Mono Lake, seen to the left, Adams focuses on the expansive sky reflected and distorted by the lake’s rippling surface. In Mt. McKinley and Wonder Lake, seen here, the body of water reflects the sky with a pearlescent intensity far brighter than the snow-covered mountain in the distance. Both photographs highlight incident and transition rather than nature’s timelessness. Gift of Dr. and Mrs. T.
