DescriptionA scene that seems to depict the burning of the Congress, in black and white and faded red opaque watercolor. Near the shore where there is a building and flag pole with American flag a three masted man-o-war burns, but still fires on the Merrimac and three other boats with two guns aft. A sailing vessel at left of Merrimac sinks slowly. This is on heavy rough paper reinforced on the left edge.Published ReferencesReproduced in black and white on page 27 of the book IRONCLADS OF THE CIVIL WAR, American Heritage Publishing Co., NY, 1964.
