DescriptionThis is an oil on canvas painting of Lieutenant General Ulysses Simpson Grant. It is painted from life, meaning that Grant gave the artist at least one sitting. General Grant wears a dark blue uniform with three stars on each shoulder and a white shirt underneath. Supported by a boulder, he leans on his right forearm and elbow and he looks past the viewer. A gray and blue cloud-filled sky is the backdrop.
