DescriptionThis square glass box was mold-blown, with colorless glass on the inside. The amethyst ground color of the exterior (which appears to be black) is highlighted with splotches of opaque red and white glass, and applications of gold and platinum foil. The rims of the box and its lid are mounted in solid silver. The decoration of this box alludes to two great Japanese craft traditions: lacquer work and papermaking. In the Japanese tradition of a precious object, Fujita's glass box is accompanied by a specially made wooden storage case.
