DescriptionThis is a gelatin silver print.Label TextO. Winston Link American (1914-2001) TRAIN NO. 2 CROSSING BRIDGE 425-VIEW OF THE RIGHT SIDE Arcadia, Virginia, 1956 L2004.11.49 In August 1956, Winston Link created two photographs of Train No. 2 at Bridge 425 which were taken simultaneously from both sides of the locomotive. This is the view of the right side, and shows engineer Walter Finney looking out the cab window for the photographer. Link had told Finney where he would be photographing that night, but Link was standing by the camera on the opposite side of the locomotive. The challenge in creating two photographs of the same object with the cameras aimed towards each other is to make sure that the lighting on one side of the locomotive doesn't create a blinding glare in the camera on the other side. In this pair of photographs, Link worked hard to make sure that his large flashbulb reflectors would be hidden from the opposite camera.
