Label TextSOLITUDE SIDING AND TRAIN NO. 2 Near Arcadia, Virginia, 1957 L2004.11.26 The sign for Solitude Siding, standing alone in a remote area, caught Winston Link's eye as soon as he started the N&W project, but it wasn't until February, 1957, that he made the photo. Link noted: I did this shot alone, and it took a total of four hours, which was rather quick. This place was out in nowhere, and the more I studied the sign, the more alone I felt. It made me hurry to clean up and get out! It was eerie to be in total darkness in that place. It was well named-Solitude!
