Inexpensive carte-de-visite prints like those seen here were the most common. The portrait on the left was well known during Lincoln’s presidency and became the basis for many political cartoons. The card on the right shows a rough wooden cabin, purportedly one of Lincoln’s childhood homes in rural Kentucky or Indiana.
