DescriptionPortrait of an unidentified elderly woman with dark grey-black hair and light grey-blue eyes. She wears black clothing with copious amounts of decorative black lace and a floral brooch in gold or brass. Her black hat is adorned with purple (silk?) flowers. Her hair is carefully styled into rows of curls that frame her face. She sits on a Victorian looking chair with carved wood ornament and red upholstery. Next to her is an open book with reading glasses, an elegant glass vase of flowers, and bookmark or page turner (or fan?). The background appears to be an opulent wall decoration, reminiscent of gilded leather wall-hangings.
