DescriptionThis is a silver covered cup using a pineapple pattern. Although once attributed to the London silversmith John Evans of London, recent scholarship now credits this gilt silver covered cup in the form of a pineapple on a tree trunk to an unknown German silversmith. As the cup is repeatedly stamped with Evans’ maker’s mark, IE, he would have acted as the retailer of the cup rather than maker.
