DescriptionJoon Yong Kim’s Blue Tears is a tall glass vase with a cone-shaped profile that is cast from blue-to-purple toned glass. The vessel has a very thin, undulating rim and the outer surface has bulbous projections that resemble the shapes of teardrops. The color of the glass becomes deeper at the teardrops because the glass is thicker at these points. The vessel has been coldworked, i.e. ground down to reveal the teardrop shapes, so that the glass appears lighter blue to violet where the walls are thinner. .
