DescriptionThis sand was collected by David Givens, Director of Archaeology at Jamestown Rediscovery, on August 28, 2020. Dr. Givens shares the sand's significance: “This trench was excavated 20 years ago. Clean, coarse sand was brought in from elsewhere to backfill the dig. While this sand is not native to Jamestown Island, it is a tangible trace of our archaeological forebears, and a reminder that understanding our shared history is an ongoing process in which we are only one part.” Atelier NL sand archive sample identification number: Jamestown-US-0039.
