DescriptionThis sand was collected by Sean Romo, Senior Staff Archaeologist at Jamestown Rediscovery, on August 28, 2020. Mr. Romo shares the sand's significance: “This sand was taken from a 17th-century churchyard, but it has been on the island for millennia. It witnessed thousands of years of Native American history, the arrival of the first Africans, and far more. It tells us that the history of a place is not confined to one era or culture, but is a bigger, collective story.” Atelier NL sand archive sample identification number: Jamestown-US-0038.ProvenanceAtelier NL to CMAExhibition History"To See a World in a Grain of Sand", Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA, August 12, 2022 - January 22, 2023.
