DescriptionBox and like lid. Box is enameled cameo pale amber. Rectangular on four solid round feet. Like lid is a semi-pyramid in shape. Both have an all over design of squash vines, with the fruit, flower, vine and leaves in enamel. There is a cartouche (medallion) on the lid of peasants walking in the woods. Enameled in appropriate, but somber colors. Romantic Medieval design.

Label Text"COFFRET" OR CASKET Cristallerie d'Emile Galle, Nancy, France Ca. 1878-1884 Mold-blown glass with applied feet; acid- etched, cut, enameled, gilded. Mark: in relief on lower back of box Galle Gift: Jean Outland Chrysler Collection 71.6631 a & b The casket strongly reflects Galle's interest in Medieval themes. The overall shape suggests a reliquary and the cartouch on the lid depicts pilgrims.
