DescriptionThe David L. Hack Civil War Photography Collection. This photograph depicts the view of Chambersburg Turnpike from Gettysburg. A wide dirt road dominates the foreground and extends back into the center of the photo. To the right is a building with a fence and off in the distance, farther down the road is another building. The photo reads along the bottom "Showing a portion of the first day's fighting-ground, including Oak Ridge, occupied by rebel batteries on the second and third. The small stone house, near the summit of the hill, was occupied by Gen. Lee as his headquarters." This is from _Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the War_ (Hack Collection No. 2].
