DescriptionThe David L. Hack Civil War Photography Collection. This photograph depicts the view of Chambersburg Turnpike from Gettysburg. A wide dirt road dominates the foreground and extends back into the center of the photo. To the right is a building with a fence and off in the distance, farther down the road is another building. The photo reads along the bottom "Showing a portion of the first day's fighting-ground, including Oak Ridge, occupied by rebel batteries on the second and third. The small stone house, near the summit of the hill, was occupied by Gen. Lee as his headquarters."
