DescriptionThis is an American wood frame created around the 1860s, a rare relatively undecorated variation on styles typical for Hudson River School paintings. It features gilded and applied composition ornament, with running ornament on the back edge, a reeded bolection top edge, and high undecorated scotia. Inner decoration begins with an astragal, followed by a step, a reeded band, another step, and finishing with a flat and hollow liner. The sight edge is 39 1/2 x 49 1/2 inches. The width of the molding is 6 inches, and the depth is 3 1/4 inches. It bears no inscriptions or labels. Frames William Trost Richards, "Tower on the Cornish Coast," #97.10.
