DescriptionThis is a hollow, rectangular vessel of blown glass that rests on four cast-bronze stilts (attached with epoxy). The piece has a blocky, architectonic or geometric body, consisting of a main vertical rectangular shape with smaller rectangular sections protruding from it. The glass is rough on its exterior and smooth on its interior. The inside of the vessel is visible from the top or through two openings (“windows”) on one side. The glass is a translucent pinkish to light purple color, with white, mustard yellow, and turquoise-green splotches that resemble abstract painting or graffiti.ProvenanceFriedman Benda Gallery to CMAExhibition HistoryMattias Sellden | Thaddeus Wolfe, Friedman Benda Gallery (July 14 - August 12, 2022).Published ReferencesPhotos of the work appear in an exhibition review article written by Brecht Wright Gander and published in The Design Edit (an online magazine focused on collectible design): “A paeon, a grumble and an appreciative critique—Brecht Wright Gander reflects on Wolfe’s glass constructions and Sellden’s birch forms” (July 26, 2022 https://thedesignedit.com/exhibitions/mattias-sellden-thaddeus-wolfe/).
