DescriptionThis albumen carte de visite is a seated portrait of William Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898), British statesman; four times Prime Minister, 1868-1894). This CDV is from C. D. Fredericks & Co., New York, Havana, and Paris. The mount is rectangular; the face of the card is bordered by double gilt lines. Gladstone is seated turned to his proper right with his hands clasped in his lap. He is seated in an elaborately carved arm chair; behind him is a pedastal; to his right is a table with two books on it.
