DescriptionThis albumen carte de visite is a three-quarter-length portrait of Gustavus Vasa Fox (1821-1883), Assistant Secretary of the Navy under Lincoln, supervised Union naval success in Civil War. This CDV is from C. D. Fredericks & Co., New York, Havana, and Paris. The mount is rectangular with slightly rounded corners; the face of the card is bordered by a single purple line. Fox is standing with his proper left arm resting on a pedestal.
