The Arms of William V (1748-1806) incorporates the Order of the
Garter- the most exalted British order of knighthood. William
was inducted into the Order as a child in 1752, the year after his
father died. His fath William IV, had been inducted into the
order in 1733- shortly before his marriage to Princess Anne,
oldest daughter of George II of Great Britain.Published ReferencesRobert Schmidt _Catalogue of Muhson Collection_, Vol. II, No. 271, pl. 35 with information translated: "Glass with diamond-stippled coat-of-arms of House of Orange. Narrow bowl on six sided stem. The Coat-of-Arms surrounded by Order of the Garter, crowned and flanked by two lions and flowers. Work by D. Wolff about 1785."
Buckley, _The Art of Glass_, #391, (C.445-36), ill. #143, similar, cut stem and same coat-of-arms but right lion facing different direction, "not earlier than 1767--glass probably not English & engraving also not Wolff".
