Remains of President Lincoln Lying in State, 1865 Albumen print (photograph) In Cleveland, Ohio, the viewing of Lincoln’s casket took place outdoors in a specially constructed pagoda in Monument Square. The train arrived at 7 a.m. on April 28, and by the time it departed at midnight, more than 150,000 people had passed by the coffin, despite heavy rainfall throughout much of the day.
