DescriptionThis is an early Worcester 'Pedestal' Sauceboat. The oval body press-molded on either side with a rococo cartouche painted in a famille-verte palette with a bird perched on a flowering peony branch and eyeing an insect, the spout molded with a smaller cartouche painted in and around the floral sprigs repeated on the interior of the spout and flaring scalloped rim, the center painted with a crane watching a large insect amidst grasses by a stream, the lozenge-shaped panel painted with an iron-red scroll device, and the C-scroll handle with a scroll terminal. Possibly slightly overfired.ProvenanceHenry Clay Hofheimer, II
