DescriptionThis is a Worcester "Gilliflower" pattern coffee cup (A) and saucer (B) painted in the London workshop of James Giles in green monochrome. Each piece has a sprig of dianthus and forget-me-nots surrounded by a winged insect and three floral sprigs. The rims are edged in gilding. The grooved loop handle has a row of gilt dots. The cup has a pair of crossed swords and a numeral 9 marked in underglaze blue. The saucer has faint star cracks in the center, a deep scratch in the dianthus, a small chip on the rim, and the gilding is worn off on the edge.ProvenanceHenry Clay Hofheimer, II
