DescriptionThis is a Worcester turquoise-ground teacup (A) and saucer (B) painted in the London workshop of James Giles. Each piece has a solid turquoise ground between gilt bands around the rim edge and above the footrim of the cup or in the center of the saucer. The bifurcated foliate-scroll handle is decorated with gilt dots. There are crossed swords and a numeral 9 in underglaze blue. The handle is hair cracked through the two upper joins in the body.
