DescriptionThis is a partially gilded American period frame from the second half of the nineteenth century. It is constructed of a basswood or poplar outer molding with an applied solid mahogany cap, around a gilded pine liner, with pine support blocks. The outer cove is stained to a natural wood finish. The gilded inner molding has a sanded cove, bordered by taenia on both sides, with diminutive running ornament above and diminutive strung pearls below. A 7/8 in. gilded pine flat-and-hollow liner will be added to make the molding width a total of 5 ½ in., and the sight size is currently 37 ¾ x 61 ¾ in.
