DescriptionThe David L. Hack Civil War Photography Collection. This photograph contains the image of ten Civil War soldiers. All of the soldiers appear to be white except for one African American. Most of the men are laying or sitting on the grass near a tree while the African American man sits in a chair. Behind them are positioned several soldiers' pitched tents. Inside the closest tent there are chairs and a small table with a bowl. The tent behind the first seems to have a cot inside. Off to the right, the image is hazy but a man with two horses can be discerned. In the background view there are more tents and trees. This is Plate 10 from _Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the War_(Hack Collection No. 50).
