DescriptionThis is a Worcester "Kempthorne" pattern teacup (A), coffee cup (B), and saucer (C). Each piece is painted in an expanded Imari palette of underglaze-blue, iron-red, green, and gilding around the exterior of the saucer and interior of the cups. There are flowering plants growing from a gilt herringbone-patterned underglaze blue border or roundel interrupted with iron-red demi-flowerhead panels repeated as a border around the scalloped and barbed rim. The sides of the cups have scroll handles. There are pseudo-Chinese seal marks in underglaze blue on the coffee cup. The teacup and saucer have some central wear.
