DescriptionThis is a Worcester blue-scale "Fine Old Japan Star" pattern sugar bowl (A) and cover (B). Each piece is reserved with three gilt rococo scroll-edged "mirror"-shaped cartouches painted with iron-red and gilt star-shaped blossoms between iron-red fan-shaped devices at the sides. The exterior is further reserved with three "vase"-shaped cartouches beneath triangular panels, all edged with scrollwork and containing a single iron-red blossom. There is a pseudo-Chinese seal mark in underglaze blue. The knop blossom is restored in plaster.ProvenanceHenry Clay Hofheimer, II
